Tikkun Olam

“Justice, justice you shall pursue” (Deuteronomy 16:20)

At Congregation Beth Tikvah, the call to Tikkun Olam—repairing the world—is woven into the fabric of our community.

Guided by Jewish values and traditions, we strive to make a meaningful impact through social action, advocacy, and education.

Our efforts extend beyond our congregation, embracing the wider Columbus and Jewish communities to promote social justice and model these ideals for future generations.

How We Repair the World at Beth Tikvah...

Social Action Committees & Programs

Our Social Action Committee leads a variety of initiatives aimed at addressing critical needs and
promoting justice:

B.R.E.A.D.
(Building Responsibility, Equality, and Dignity)

Partnering with interfaith groups to
address systemic issues through advocacy and action. Past successes include tackling payday
loan interest rates, youth incarceration, and blighted housing.

Mitzvah Day

A cornerstone event that brings our congregation together to address various
causes, including:

  • Kindness to animals – Tza’ar Ba’alei Chayim
  • Caring for the elderly – Hiddur P’nai Zaken
  • Feeding the hungry – Ma’akhil Re’evin
  • Loving one’s neighbor – V’ahavta L’reyacha

Caring Community

Providing outreach and support to congregants facing challenges such as
illness, loss, or unemployment, and offering help to senior members in need.

Annual High Holy Days Food Drive

A beloved tradition born out of generosity, our annual food drive supports the Worthington Resource Pantry, providing essential nourishment and comfort for local families in need.

Chai 614

A collaborative, membership-based alliance formed by Columbus-area Jewish congregations and agencies. Its mission is to empower older adults to live safely, independently, and meaningfully in their own homes.

Columbus Souper Bowl Cook-off

Organized by the Beth Tikvah Brotherhood, this event raises funds for the Beth Tikvah Jewish Camp Fund, which has helped send hundreds of children to Jewish summer camps over the past two decades. The Souper Bowl blends fun with impact, bringing together families, food lovers, and community partners in support of our youth.

Environmental Initiatives

Garden Buds

Tu BiSh’vat & Earth Day

Promoting environmental awareness in our community through activities like gardening, environmental education, and sustainable living workshops.

Creativity & Community

Meals on Wheels

Every December, Brotherhood members deliver meals to local families, embodying the spirit of giving during the holiday season.

Blood Drives

Organized multiple times a year, these drives benefit both temple and community members in need.

Kibbitz & Kraft

Supporting Mitzvah Day and other initiatives through crafting projects like blankets for newborns, walker bags for seniors, and mats for the homeless made from recycled
grocery bags.

Partnership with the Worthington Resource Pantry

Throughout the year, Beth Tikvah partners with the pantry to combat food insecurity in our local community.

Congregants regularly donate food, volunteer their time, and help distribute resources to those in need.
